The Australian Government’s new Cyber Security Strategy provides confidence for our university sector now and will deliver great support to the future economy.

ATN Executive Director, Luke Sheehy, said protecting students and staff from cyber security threats is crucial, but that it is only one piece of the information technology puzzle.

“Protecting our data is, of course, absolutely vital but just as important for our country’s future needs and meeting the strategic goals which have been outlined by the Government is ensuring that we stay ahead of the game. We must make sure we can fill what is a critical shortage in the cyber security workforce,” he said.

Mr Sheehy said ATN universities will be at the forefront of delivering many of the graduates required to help meet the Government’s 2030 target of 1.2 million technology-related jobs.

ATN universities currently teach:

“ATN welcomes the Government’s commitment to cyber security. There will be an ever-increasing demand for skilled workers in areas such as cyber security and data analysis, and ATN universities will continue to best prepare students for entry into these crucial workforces,” he added.

“With about two-thirds of people undertaking an ICT degree in Australia being international students it’s important that we keep working with Government to provide post-study pathways for those who want to stay here and make use of their great education and skills.”
