ATN Universities welcome Government’s commitment to FEE-FREE Uni Ready courses.
The Australian Technology Network of Universities (ATN) applauds the investment into FEE-FREE Uni Ready courses announced in the Federal Budget.
ATN Universities Chair, Professor Harlene Hayne CNZM, said the Government’s $350m commitment for fee-free student preparatory places was welcome.
“ATN Universities recognise the importance of providing alternative pathways to a world-class university experience,” Prof Hayne said.
“We commend the Government’s measures to ease cost-of-living stress on our students, including commitments to rental assistance and Commonwealth Prac Payments. This support will allow them to focus on their studies and enrich their student experience.
“ATN Universities look forward to working with Government over the next 18 months to help strengthen R&D alignment with Australian priorities and improve research, innovation and development outcomes.”
ATN Universities Executive Director (Interim) Frank Coletta said the Budget confirmed the pivotal role universities will play in developing the workforce of the future.
“This is a considered Budget; it builds on stronger support for students and helps break down barriers for anyone wanting to get a university education. This is a crucial down payment on building a fairer go and providing the ability for people to participate in our economy,” he said.
“We have long called for better support for students. The funding commitment on enabling programs will ensure that students who want to access Higher Education have the best possible preparation.”
