ATN Universities appoints new Executive Director

29 May 2024

The Australian Technology Network of Universities (ATN Universities) is pleased to announce higher education policy expert Dr Ant Bagshaw as its new Executive Director, commencing Monday, 3 June.

Dr Bagshaw brings extensive global experience to the role, with his career spanning the university, media, education technology and consulting sectors. Most recently he was a Senior Advisor in L.E.K. Consulting’s Global Education Practice, leading its work with public higher education providers.

Dr Bagshaw teaches a course on policy influence in higher education at the University of Pennsylvania and is a Member of Council at the Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology in the UK. He is also the author of Higher Imagination: A Future for Universities and co-editor of Influencing Higher Education Policy.

Dr Bagshaw said he was thrilled to take the reins of ATN Universities, as a collaborative and creative driver of real-world change for 25 years.

“ATN universities are truly distinctive in their excellence across education and student experience, research and innovation, and in their broader social impact,” Dr Bagshaw said.

“They deliver for this country every single day by providing the inclusive and transformational education which students and employers need.

“The ATN Universities group has a proud history of making a positive impact for Australian tertiary education. It’s a trusted voice bringing significant political clout and I look forward to continue to work closely with governments and enthusiastically with partners where we can have a collective positive impact.”

ATN Chair and Curtin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Harlene Hayne said it was an outstanding appointment during what is a dynamic period for higher education.

“Ant’s significant policy experience will position ATN Universities well as the Accord Report’s recommendations are implemented over the coming months and years. We look forward to Ant leading the organisation and building on its impressive legacy,” Prof Hayne said.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our Director of Public Affairs, Frank Coletta, who has done a terrific job as Interim Executive Director, since the departure of former ATN Executive Director, Luke Sheehy.”
