The anticipation, and tension, is building for students, present and past, from across the ATN Universities membership with the Paris Olympics opening ceremony fast approaching.

Among the many elite athletes representing our six universities at the 2024 Olympic Games is current UTS rower Annabelle McIntyre, who will be competing for Australia in the Women’s Coxless Pair event.

Annabelle is currently in her second year of study of a Bachelor of Science and is part of the UTS Elite Athlete Program (EAP).

Joining Annabelle in donning the green and gold for a second time is student Se-Bom Lee, who will take his place in the 200m backstroke. Another member of the EAP program, Se-Bom is currently pursuing a combined degree of Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Medical Science and is part of a 15-strong UTS representation at the greatest show on earth.

RMIT Industrial Design with Honours student Ben Canham will join Annabelle at the Vaires-sur-Marne. Following school and then domestic success, Ben has also celebrated gold, silver and bronze medals at the World Championships.

Among the group of five from RMIT will be Melissa Tapper, who is again competing in the Table Tennis competition. A graduate of the Diploma in Conveyancing, Melissa has won medals for Australia at both the Commonwealth Games and Paralympics, was also the first Australian to qualify for both the Olympics and Paralympics in 2016 and will compete at both again this year.

ATN Universities is thrilled to support students from across the membership group Curtin University, Deakin University, RMIT University, The University of Newcastle, University of South Australia and University of Technology Sydney and we’ll be cheering you on in the early hours of the morning.

We congratulate you all on your selection and wish you every success in Paris as you take on the world’s best.
