The Australian Technology Network of Universities (ATN) warmly welcomes today’s announcement by Prime Minister Scott Morrison that, from 1 December 2021, Australia is open and ready to welcome our international education students back so they can resume their studies in Australia.

This announcement means that fully vaccinated students who currently hold a valid Australian visa can travel to Australia in the coming weeks and months. With uncertainty over travel restrictions since the beginning of the pandemic, it gives the many thousands of international students the news that Australia is still a great place to live, work and study.

These past two years have reinforced the positive difference that international students make to our campuses and classes and all ATN universities look forward to welcoming back international students to our campuses.

Our Australian and international students and staff have all experienced the uncertainties and disruption that COVID-19 has caused. This is a welcome step towards resuming normal campus life and reconnecting with friends and colleagues.

Quotes attributable to ATN Executive Director, Mr Luke Sheehy:

“This announcement clearly demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting Australia’s highly successful international education sector.

“International students are valuable members of the ATN community, enriching our campuses and improving the learning experience for Australian students.

“We have missed having international students on campus these past two years and are tremendously excited for their return.

“Today’s announcement means there is a clear path to welcoming back international students to our universities and we will continue to work with governments across Australia to ensure this happens.”
