ATN welcomes the upcoming commencement of the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, due to commence in July 2020. Indonesia is one of Australia’s closest and most important neighbours and this agreement further strengthens the strategic partnership between our two countries.
At a time when COVID-19 has disrupted both the Australian and Indonesian economies, this agreement will provide an opportunity to stimulate growth and investment across the two nations when the post pandemic recovery phase begins.
“The agreement will enable many sectors, including higher education, the ability to bolster and develop new strategic ties as well as share important research knowledge” said ATN Executive Director Luke Sheehy.
“Indonesia has strategic importance to ATN. We have long viewed Indonesia as a gateway to the ASEAN region and have placed considerable priority and focus on ensuring we connect with students and industry partners to bring to the fore valuable opportunities for our universities”
ATN has already established a strong presence in Indonesia. We have valuable partnerships with BlueScope Steel, and Black and Veatch who host ATN engineering interns in Indonesia. ATN has had a dedicated, Indonesia-based country manager coordinating network activities there for over five years. ATN has focused on both research and learning and teaching ties with Indonesia through our agreement with RISTEKDIKTI to support ATN member activity in these areas.
Across ATN, there were more than 2,000 enrolments from Indonesian students in 2018.
We look forward to the agreement coming into operation in early July 2020.
