The Australian Technology Network of Universities (ATN) acknowledges the significant work of the Vice-Chancellors, Executives and Councils of both the University of South Australia and The University of Adelaide which has led to the announcement of a formal agreement to work together to support the South Australian Government as it moves to create a combined new university.

The new university, Adelaide University, will commence in January 2026, pending legislation and regulatory approval.

ATN reaffirms that the University of South Australia will continue to be a valued and foundational member of our grouping until such time as its enabling legislation is repealed.

As a successor to the University of South Australia, Adelaide University will be invited by the ATN Vice-Chancellors to join our network through a formal approach to its Council once it has been formed.

ATN brings together six universities which are modern, forward-thinking community pillars focused on the challenges and opportunities of the future economy, advanced skills and greater insights – qualities which are clearly apparent in the vision statement for the new Adelaide University.

We are a group of universities which have sought to be innovators, that challenge the conventional image of a university, and that redefine what it means to be an applied and skills focused university. Our universities are driven by our collective and constructive approach to local, national and global priorities and challenges.

ATN values excellence in both skills and knowledge creation and we advance an integrated and innovative approach to learning, research and engagement. We partner for purpose and enterprise with industry and community.

ATN looks forward to supporting the University of South Australia during this exciting period of transition and transformation.
