The Australian Technology Network of Universities (ATN) has congratulated the Albanese Government on its announcement today of an injection of almost $300m into arts, entertainment and culture – the creative industries.
ATN Executive Director, Luke Sheehy, said the Government’s release of Revive, the new National Cultural Policy, signifies the importance of arts and the creative industries to our nation’s economy.
“The funding boost, along with the announcement of Creative Australia, is a welcome shot in the arm for our next generation of storytellers and performers,” Mr Sheehy said.
ATN universities teach over 23,000 students in creative arts around Australia and this also represents 25 per cent of all enrolments in creative arts nationally.
This embattled sector employs more than 400,000 Australians.
“ATN universities equip our creative arts students with the necessary skills to move straight into work-life,” he added.
“Storytelling is an important part of any culture and it is vital that this valuable sector continues to contribute to Australia’s identity.”
