ATN Universities are delighted, that on their current visit to India, Education Minister, Jason Clare, and Deakin University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Iain Martin, have announced that Deakin University’s new Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) campus, will officially open by July 2024.

Student applications are about to begin, with building work at the new campus expected to be completed by the end of December.

ATN Executive Director, Luke Sheehy, said ATN Universities members continue to lead the way in engagement between Australia and India.

“We bring thousands of students to Australia and have formed many strong, ongoing partnerships across research and teaching. I’m thrilled to see that as part of Minister Clare’s visit, he was able to join Professor Iain Martin for this groundbreaking event,” Mr Sheehy said.

ATN universities have been at the forefront of several pivotal partnerships announced this year with our Indian partners, including a first-of-its-kind agreement between RMIT and the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, and UniSA also building on the success of The Innovation Academy with Accenture by offering a co-developed and co-delivered Bachelor of Digital Business.

“ATN Universities have the largest number of Indian students as a grouping and we will continue to engage with India, both onshore and offshore,” Mr Sheehy added.

“This is going to be an exciting part of our dynamic global engagement and it’s fantastic to see Minister Clare there for the Deakin announcement. This is a great milestone for Australian higher education with Deakin and, of course, the University of Wollongong, being two of the first in the world to have international branch campuses in India.”
