ATN universities make their mark in global interdisciplinary research rankings
21 November 2024There have been outstanding results for ATN universities in the inaugural Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (ISR) with three in the world’s top 30 and RMIT University ranked 22nd globally and 1st in Australia.
The ISR methodology consists of three pillars, each representing a stage in the life cycle of research projects: inputs, process and outputs. Each pillar is further divided into metrics to measure different aspects of that stage. There are 11 metrics in total.
This is considered one of the first attempts at measuring universities’ contributions and commitment to interdisciplinary science.
There are 749 universities included in the first edition of this ranking and five Australian universities were included and ATN institutions excelled.
RMIT ranked 22nd globally, The University of Newcastle was close behind at 23rd and Deakin University 28th.
The country with the largest number of ranked universities is India with 65, followed by Türkiye with 45. Russia and the United States are the third highest in terms of entrants with 38 universities each.
The top 10 universities ranked were MIT, Stanford, NUS, Caltech, Duke, Minnesota, Wageningen, UC, Santa Barbara and NTU Singapore.
