ATN Universities welcomes Government’s strategic examination of research and development
02 December 2024The Australian Technology Network of Universities (ATN) warmly welcomes today’s announcement of the Terms of Reference for the strategic examination of research and development, to be undertaken by an expert independent panel in 2025.
ATN Executive Director, Dr Ant Bagshaw, said the breadth of the review and a clear commitment to engaging with the higher education sector should give confidence in the potential of this review to set a new and positive course for the research ecosystem.
“Our universities deliver world-class research with real impact. ATN member institutions play a critical role in the research landscape given their focus on applied research at the cutting edge of industry needs. They are already leading in many of the research and innovation agendas central to Australia’s future success,” Dr Bagshaw said.
“We welcome the consideration which will be given by the panel of ongoing and recent reviews by Government, including National Science and Research Priorities and the Universities Accord.
“ATN’s member universities are keen to engage and to bring our broad expertise to the process, and look forward to working with the panel to help secure that future R&D system from which all Australians will benefit.”
ATN Universities is also pleased to learn that recommendations will consider the contribution of First Nations knowledge, knowledge systems and research leadership.
