Strong new measures announced by the Albanese Government will ensure Australia’s highly valued international education sector is both better protected and future-proofed.

The Australian Technology Network of Universities (ATN) believes any changes aimed at improving the integrity and governance of significant visa channels used for Australia’s international education are steps in the right direction.

International students are an important component of Australian campuses, classes and communities and it has been heartening to see them returning to study in increasing numbers, post-COVID. It is important that we ensure all students are protected once they have decided to study in Australia.

ATN universities are a destination of choice for international students, with about one-in-five students from both China and India choosing to study at our institutions.

ATN looks forward to working closely with the Federal Government on other measures related to the migration review which will further strengthen the integrity of Australia’s international education and provide protection for the genuine students who choose to study here.
