Deakin Distinguished Professor Liz Johnson leads Deakin’s ambitious Education and Employability strategy, including the drive to premium digital learning and student experience. Professor Johnson’s portfolio includes Indigenous Strategy, Academic Governance, Graduate Employment, Faculty Services, Student Services, Deakin Library, Deakin Learning Futures, Dean of Students, and the Centre for Research in Assessment and Digital Learning (CRADLE). This year, Professor Johnson is sponsoring with People and Culture a group of projects to enhance the experience of all academic staff at Deakin.
Professor Johnson steered teaching and learning at Deakin through the COVID pandemic, building from extensive projects on Deakin’s online learning environment, teaching and course innovation and staff capability. During this period, she sponsored restructure of Deakin’s professional services for students and Faculties, renewal of teaching and learning design and transition to online assessment.
Professor Johnson’s leadership has been recognised by national and international awards. She was inaugural Director of the Australian Council of Deans of Science Teaching and Learning Centre and is a Principal Fellow of Advance HE.
Professor Johnson taught university biochemistry for over 30 years. She now researches and publishes in curriculum renewal, work-integrated learning and digital credentialing.
Deakin University has conferred on Professor Johnson the title of Deakin Distinguished Professor, the highest honour the University can bestow on a member of the academic staff, recognising their outstanding and sustained contribution to furthering Deakin’s aims.
